چکیده
Fungi of the class Zygomycetes, order Mucorales, cause deepseated infections in immunosuppressed individuals, such as those with hematologic malignancies, renal failure, diabetes mellitus, and patients on immunosuppressive therapy.1 Typically an airborne disease, primary infection is initiated in the upper or lower airways and is associated with the clinical development of sinusitis, rhinocerebral mucormycosis, or pulmonary infection.2 Dissemination to other sites may occur if patients do not receive aggressive surgical and medical therapy. Primary cutaneous mucormycosis is uncommon and has been associated with the use of elasticized surgical bandages, burns, and trauma.1,3,4 We report a case of cutaneous mucormycosis due to Rhizopus microsporus in a young immunocompetent patient following a severe traumatic injury to his lower limb.

Slowly progressive cutaneous, rhinofacial, and pulmonary mucormycosis caused by Mucor irregularis in an immunocompetent woman.
We herein report a case of slowly progressive cutaneous, rhinofacial, and pulmonary mucormycosis caused by Mucor irregularis in an immunocompetent woman who was successfully managed by combined surgical debridement and antifungal therapy. Slow progression, pulmonary involvement, occurrence in an immunocompetent patient, and good prognosis are unusual features of our case.

INTRODUCTION Cutaneous infection is an uncommon presentation of mucormycosis, usually seen after trauma, at the site of surgical drains or after occlusive dressings. The involved area is erythematous and painful, with varying degree of central necrosis. We report the case of chronic coetaneous infection of one year duration and without apparent necrosis in an immunocompetant patient. CASE PRE...

Mucormycosis is a rare but serious infection that can be seen in immunocompetent individuals who experience traumatic injury. The authors report a case in a 28 year-old man who sustained a mangling hand injury in a corn augur accident. After initial aggressive debridement ongoing tissue necrosis was seen, and in subsequent biopsies invasive mucormycosis was diagnosed. The patient was successful...
